HOW TO PROLONG YOUR SUMMER HAIR COLOR

For many of us summer is our favorite sea-sun! Longer days in the sun also mean prolonged exposure to UV rays, but did you know that the warmer than usual temps play havoc on our hair color? In fact, any type of heat, including hot tools or even washing your hair in hot water, can cause hair color to fade. So while you’re protecting your skin with SPF, how can you protect your hair and make sure your color stays vibrant for longer? Here are some tips.

  1. Choose Hair Color with Moisturizing Ingredients: Look for brands that contain natural humectants like Aloe Vera. Satin Hair Color features an Aloe Vera base that helps moisturize and condition the hair, while its soothing properties reduce scalp irritation and protects the cuticle.
  1. Limit Exposure to the Sun: Wear a hat or a swim cap to help shield hair from damaging UV rays when you’re spending the day at the pool or the beach.
  1. Use Cool Water: Hot water strips away the natural oils and opens the cuticle, allowing hair color to fade faster. It might be a shock to your system or a refreshing recharge after a day in the sun, but a blast of cold water is the best way to not wash your color down the drain.
  1. Avoid Hot Tools: You know the drill…blow dryers and hot irons can cause your color to oxidize. At the very least, if you can’t unplug, be sure to use thermal protector prior to each use.
  1. Shampoo Less Often: There are exceptions but try and limit the number of times you wash your hair this summer by using dry shampoo to get rid of oil and buildup. However, if you went swimming and your head was fully underwater, you’ve got to use the real stuff to wash away the chlorine and salt water, both of which can be harmful to hair color.
  1. Invest in a Hydrating Leave-In Conditioner: One of the top reasons for color loss is dryness. Make sure to apply it to damp hair after each wash, concentrating on the mid-shaft and pulling through to the ends. Pro tip: apply to hair prior to getting in the pool or ocean to add a protective layer.
  1. Avoid Sulfates: Look for products that are formulated without sulfates, which can strip the color from your hair. Stick to the ones specifically formatted for color-treated hair.

And if your color happens to fade to the point of no return or you simply want to start over, Satin Color Reverse will take you back to your hair’s last processed color without stripping or damaging your strands. The ammonia-free, bleach-free, and peroxide-free formula is safe and easy, allowing you to re-color your hair right away. Color Reverse gently and effectively reverses the last oxidative color process so you can give it another go.
